Social networking sites for The Spare Room

My client, The Spare Room Vintage Flea Market should (and already does for the most part) use Facebook, Twitter and Craigslist social networking sites.

Facebook is easy to use and convenient since a lot of our customers are already using Facebook. It allows for the client to post pictures of new merchandise, organize and advertise for special events and promotions, communicate with customers, and keep old customers up to date on the latest news. Just today the client posted 5 new photos and received two “likes” in the time it took to post and add descriptions to the photos. Facebook also helps the client to stay connected with other businesses to coordinate events and promote each other.

Twitter’s micro-blogging style would be great to get company information out to our customers, to get new customers, and to share photos and events. The uses are similar to Facebook but I’m not sure that many of our customers use twitter, but the only way to find out is to try!

Craigslist may not count as a social networking site but it is a great tool for the client. The website won’t allow for the client to build a relationship with customers like Facebook and Twitter but it will get a lot of attention from potential new customers. Many of the client’s vendors have posted items on Craigslist. Any interested customers have to go to The Spare Room to purchase the items. The client has had a number of new customers hear about them through Craigslist. Many of these new customers aren’t local and are willing to drive hours to come to the stores. Craigslist ads can link to Facebook and Twitter to help build a relationship that lasts longer than one transaction.
