I've got a fever and the only cure is more Facebook!

For Ozzie’s Bar, my individual project, Facebook is a perfect social media vehicle. They already have a presence (as a “person” not as an organization) with more than 900 friends now. They already do a good job of connecting with friends and interacting via the platform e.g. posting on friends walls, responding to postings, etc. What I’d like to see more of is leveraging of the capabilities of the platform and more variety in what is posted. Use of poles and other interactive plug-ins and widgets to get folks to not only become friends, but to engage (as well as possibly gather valuable data). What beer do you like? What’s your favorite drink for 4th of July? What’s the best music to hear live? Which of the bands over the weekend would you want to hear again? All questions that could be posed to friends that will make them feel involved and give the business an idea of what to do going forward.

As far as posting different things, most of the postings are pretty generic as far as what’s going on at the bar are concerned and are, more often than not, just regurgitations of the same post the week before i.e. the same post every Friday advertising the DJ for the night. I realize that advertising for the music is important, but make that post interesting. Once again, use some of the features of Facebook. Which of these songs should the DJ play? Is there any popular song that folks want to hear? Any type of post that gets people to 1) become engaged in the online conversation (rather than just the sporadic “Ozzie’s Rules!” post) and 2) encourages them to actually show up and hang out.
