3 Social Networks ECHO Community Foundation Should Consider

ECHO definitely has an opportunity to better connect with their donors and community as well as provide an easier way for the community to donate. There are a few social networking sites that the ECHO Community Foundation could be better engaging with:

You Tube – Here is the idea that I am most excited about…video applications. Throw out the traditional written application and get students to create a short 60-90 second video expressing why they deserve to receive the ECHO scholarship and what they will do to give back to the community if they were to receive it. This would allow us to (1) see their personalities which don’t always come across on paper, (2) get the community involved in the decision with voting or ‘likes’ and (3) give our talkers something to talk about.

Facebook – I will be the first to admit, ECHO needs to step it up regarding our presence on Facebook. To be fair, one thing we do well is posting events and upcoming activity and getting people involved through both Facebook and evite but these activities are not connected to our Facebook page. We need to (1) create an interesting page (point #1 should help with interesting content), (2) connect our Facebook page to showcase our scholarship recipients, making it personal and (3) find an interesting way to thank our donors and give them the kudos they deserve.

A Donation Application – There are a couple of different applications that I think would be good for ECHO to consider. First, there is a Giving application on Facebook that allows users to support charities and donate through their mobile phone. ECHO already accepts donations through their website but this is a cool application and might be a good complement to our existing donation process worth considering. Second, there is an online donation site called crowdrise which combines online fundraising, social networking, and crowd sourcing. Currently ECHO donors usually just donate and not fund raise for us. This could help us make that transition and expand.
