Social networking for a technology consulting firm

My project is on my small, local technology company that specializes in developing applications for brands using cutting-edge technology platforms. As this is a B2B company, I think the word of mouth marketing needs to focus on A) acting as an expert in the field, B) providing education on the latest technologies, and C) showing off the latest applications being built (either by us or others). So I thought the best social media sites and uses for them are:

1. Twitter - the article we read for this week, "7 Hot Tips for and Trends for Twitter," gave me the idea of offering to answer questions about new technology via Twitter. Other people in the industry could tweet questions, and our engineers or CEO (experts) could provide answers.

2. Facebook - the primary use would be to engage others in general conversations about technology. Customers, competitors, and general tech junkies all love to talk about what's new in technology, what people are doing, and what they should be doing. This FB page would be a way to engage everyone and keep conversations going. I also thought we could provide examples of fun things we've built, or even examples of what others have done. The overall idea is to foster the communication and get people thinking about the latest and greatest. Along these lines, YouTube could be used to visually show off these examples.

3. LinkedIn - I have the least experience with LI than the other sites mentioned, but this one seems to be the most relevant. LinkedIn is geared towards business people, so is a likely destination for B2B consumers who want to learn. General networking, recruiting, and other functions would help spread the word, but more importantly, we could create a group on the site focused on application development (or even several focused on specialized topics within technology). The goal is just to offer a place where people can congregate to discuss various topics. I am a member of the Seattle Startup group on LI, and it is great for fostering discussions about everything from where to buy hardware, to the best venture firms to get financing. So groups on LI are a perfect example of how we could join the conversation and get people talking about technology.
