Mobile Technology

The company that I'm choosing to focus on, T. Cellars*, is an up-and-coming sparkling wine producer located in the Yakima Valley. The product is fantastic, and the company is beginning to see results after implementing a Facebook page and a Twitter account. However, after reading the articles on QR codes, moms, and mobile credit card processing, I think these could be good tools to help T. Cellars boost awareness and conversion.

Since T. Cellars is newer to the market, and there is some stiff competition, I think it would be beneficial for T. Cellars to utilize QR codes. Right now, T. Cellars is pouring at a lot of events, and is trying to sponsor events to gain community awareness. However, using QR codes on business cards, information cards, and on their website/Facebook account could maximize T. Cellar's desire to get potential customers informed about how wonderful they are. Placing information like upcoming events, special "VIP Club tastings," tours, as well as basic information like where the winery is located, hours, etc. could be provide customers with a point of contact that doesn't require a lot of effort.

Secondly, T. Cellars is located in an area with many other wineries, some of whom partner with T. Cellars for events and pourings. It could be helpful to design a mobile app for iPhone and Android with an interactive map that links T. Cellars with other nearby wineries. Customers could get stars or "rewards" for visiting wineries on the map, and could be entered to win a dinner with the wine maker or a special gift basket. Customers could also post reviews about the places they visit so that others can determine whether or not it's worth stopping to taste. This would also generate good feedback for T. Cellars since they would be able to fix potential problems and thank those who give them kudos.

Further, I think that implementing a system where customers can pay with their mobile device would make transactions more smooth in the tasting room. Right now, because the winery is smaller, not all credit cards are accepted, and checks are not taken either. Basically, customers have limited options when they want to purchase. Implementing a system where customers could pay with their phones would be easier for both the customers and the winery staff. It would potentially be less expensive than using a debit/credit card machine, and would also be something to talk about -- in Yakima, it takes time for new technology to become widely available. If T. Cellars had something new and different like a "pay with your phone" system, people would talk.
